My Journey Explained…
My name is Laura Colucci, a 29 year old living in the heart of downtown Toronto.
First off, thank you so much for visiting my page, I am absolutely pumped to be sharing my story and knowledge to those willing to learn, change and grow.
Where it all began…
Alright so lets just start off by saying I was the most unathletic kid ever. I absolutely hated working out, moving my body, Gym class, and sports were NOT my thing and also, I was to say the least… very uncoordinated.
Once I reached the age of 21, I began to get curious with health and fitness. Instagram/social media started ramping up and the more I used it the more I began to explore the fitness side of social media, which at that point had not been so oversaturated like it is today.
The partner I had at the time, was a very experienced personal trainer/competitor so I looked for him for guidance and mentoring, through the beginning of my fitness journey. Believe it or not, it took me 4-5 attempts until I actually stuck to a workout routine. I would fall off after 1-2 weeks due to lack of motivation and discipline, but then eventually tried again. I told myself that even though I didnt want to go every day, the feeling I had at the end of each session was worth dragging my ass to the gym.
And then one day, it just stuck. I started “knowing” what I was going to do when I got to the gym, looking forward to it every day, and of course seeing results physically and mentally when I consistently went was very addicting!
I went through a few different “phases” of fitness, starting with Bikini, I went through a 8 week prep for a photoshoot that was designed as a bikini prep, to see if I could mentally handle it. Well long story short it didnt go very well (Read more about it in my Relationship with Food Blog).
After Bikini, I tried Powerlifting. This was extremely fun, and such a confidence booster in the gym hitting PR’s on Bench, DL and Squats. This is where form really comes into play, and is extremely important, so much risk comes with powerlifting as fun as it is. I competed in my first Powerlifting competition for the OPA, and came in first yay! After that I had split from my partner, who had trained me and coached me for Powerlifting, therefore retiring the sport all together. I was happy to have competed once, that was all I wanted to do.
Moving forward now, I changed my fitness approach to just training for enjoyment, therapy, and had a healthy balance with it afterwards.
As you probably know I have now for the past 4 years been a huge runner, taking up 4 half Marathons with a PR of 1:46min pace of 5.01/km.
